Multiplayer space combat game Dead Star is available now, developer Armature Studio has announced in a press release today. The game is available for Windows PC via Steam and PlayStation 4 with cross-play support available between the two versions. The PS4 version of the game is free for all PlayStation Plus subscribers this month and will then cost $19.99 thereafter.
“As a game that lives and breathes by its multiplayer community, we’re extremely excited to take Dead Star out of Beta and expose it to the wider world,” lead designer Tom Ivey commented. “This has been a passion project for us at Armature, and we’re excited to shape the game with the community’s feedback as we move forward into launch and beyond.”
To celebrate the game’s release, Amature has released a launch trailer which you can see above.
The game fuses space combat, plenty of great loot, team-based multiplayer complexity, and the fast-paced action of classic arcade games in a single twin-stick shooter experience.
Amature describes the game as follows: “Engage in objective-based skirmishes of up to 10v10 as you pilot a variety of unique ships, each with their own distinct advantages and roles in combat. As you fight and scavenge your way through a procedurally-generated battlefield, you’ll earn player levels and loot to further customize your experience– including the ability to invade other matches with a massive warship.”
There are three main types of ships in the game: scouts which are fast but weak (they make up for it by capturing outposts far faster than any other vessel type), raiders which are fast and powerful, and frigates which are extremely strong but by far the slowest vessel type in the game.
