As July approaches its midpoint, many people are already looking to the next month and the months after. In the gaming community, that means that people are already counting down the days until the next big titles come out on certain platforms. While October may seem like a lifetime away, it’s really not. So if you were to hear that Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 was only 100 days away from release on PS5, you might think, “Wow, that’s really close!” To which we’d say, that’s true! Plus, now that it’s at this “milestone number,” the countdown can truly begin.
Without a doubt, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is one of the biggest games of the year, and that includes all the titles that have already been released. The game has been desired for years, and Insomniac Games has kept fans waiting with announcements and information. The first trailer for the game didn’t come out until 2021, and then it was nearly two years later that we got more information via a PlayStation Showcase.
But once those floodgates opened, everyone was excited for the title with renewed vigor, and people are eager to hear even more.
So what do we know about the title that’s making everyone excited? Let’s start out with the basics. First, the game takes place several months after the spinoff starring Miles Morales. He and Peter Parker are back in New York together, and they’re both being Spider-Man to the city. That’s important as, gameplay-wise, you’ll be able to change between Peter and Miles in key missions and choose who you want to be as you swing through New York in the open sections.
As for the story, the main storyline we know about features Kraven the Hunter. He comes to New York to hunt down some of the city’s heroes and villains and isn’t afraid to put everyone in the city in danger to get his prize. Aside from him, the villains we know will appear include The Lizard and the Venom Symbiote. Notice that we don’t say Venom outright because, as we saw in the gameplay trailer, Peter Parker wields the Symbiote first in the game.
That doesn’t mean that Venom won’t show up as concept art of Venom has been shown by Insomniac. It’s just that he won’t be the villain at first.
We might get more information about the title at San Diego Comic-Con as the team from Insomniac will be there showing off some “Symbiotic Relationships.”
