It’s been quite a turbulent year for fans of the Pokemon franchise. On the positive side, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet was released on the Nintendo Switch last November and easily became the fastest-selling game on the Nintendo Switch at the time. But there was a big catch to that. Mainly, the game was not released in the polished state that fans were used to. Adding to their woes, The Pokemon Company and Game Freak haven’t fixed things up as many hoped they would at this point. Additionally, the mainline anime has ended, and fans want something to elevate them back to good standing with the companies.
Many hope that the upcoming Pokemon Scarlet and Violet DLC, known as The Teal Mask and The Indigo Disk, will help change things, but it’s anything but certain. After all, as the recent Nintendo Direct revealed, the DLC packs are still labeled as “Fall and Winter 2023,” with no further indication of when they might release. The Pokemon Company may be trying to prevent another premature launch, but it’s unclear; thus, fans are frustrated.
However, a new rumor from a longtime leaker of the franchise has come out, and it’s interesting, to say the least. Riddler Khu has been someone who has dropped various clues about the franchise over the years, and they’re right more than they are wrong. In a tweet made yesterday, he seemed to indicate that one of the characters you’ll meet in the new DLC, specifically from The Indigo Disk, will tie into whatever comes next for the franchise:
It should be noted that Khu states he was “mistranslated” for the tweet, but he still posted it, so he clearly had a reason for doing it.
But what could he mean by his tweet and posting the DLC-specific image? The easiest guess is that The Pokemon Company isn’t going to rest with a two-part DLC for Gen 9. Thus, one of the characters from The Blueberry Academy could lead us to another part of the world where we’ll have more adventures. That would make sense, as it’s fair that they wouldn’t want to release another mainline title on the Switch, given that two generations have already released on it. So why not pad it with more DLC?
However, some think that it could be a tease for the next mainline title, not unlike how Street Fighter 6 had Luke show up as the final DLC character for the previous title to indicate that something big was coming.
Time will tell what’s true and what’s a false leak.
