Halo 5 Still Isn’t Coming To PC, But Future Halo Games Could – Phil Spencer

March 31, 2016 by Ryan Parreno

Phil Spencer has once again reiterated that Halo 5: Guardians is not coming to PC. You may not like the reason why.

Phil Spencer has once again reiterated that Halo 5: Guardians is not coming to PC. You may not like the reason why.

Rumors that Halo 5: Guardians would be coming to PC have gone on-again and off-again since the game was announced. Last October, Xbox marketing head Aaron Greenberg had to clarify a statement from an interview with 343 Industries’ Frank O’Connor. However, just this month, Aaron himself suggested that a port would now be possible.

Now, however, Xbox head Phil Spencer himself has gone on record that it would not be happening, in spite of Microsoft’s newly unveiled plans with UWPs and the Windows 10 App Store. As he put it, it goes down to ‘suitability.’

Phil explains not all of Microsoft’s Xbox One games will also be going to PC and vice versa. Microsoft decides if a game is suitable for one or both platforms and publishes as they see fit. Case in point, Ashes of Singularity is unlikely to hit PC because Microsoft does not think it is suitable for PC. We of course already know they think Rise of the Tomb Raider, Forza, and Gears of War are suitable for both platforms.

In the case of Halo 5: Guardians, Phil states that it was built from the ground up for consoles. In contrast, Halo Wars 2 was planned and made for both platforms from the start. Phil ends by stating he can see a future for Halo FPSes on both Xbox One and Windows 10, but he does not want to be looking back to earlier games to do so.
