Despite Nintendo's claims that 2012 would be the "year of Wii U," the system's first public appearance of the year, at CES, didn't really bring anything new in terms of info or announcements. All the demos and talking points were a copy-paste of E3, although video has now surfaced of a demo that was closed-doors only back in June.
The demo features an interactive, panoramic video of a car driving through the Tokyo Streets. By moving and titling the tablet controller, you can shift your perspective in real time, effectively a real-time version of Google Maps' Streetview feature. We don't imagine this demo will be turned into a game anytime soon (unless FMV makes a comeback in a huge way), but the sort of dynamic perspective that's on display would work great in an FPS or driving game.
Nintendo says the WIi U will be out sometime between June and the end of the year. Expect loads more info about the new console, including a price and release date, to surface between now and the end of E3 2012.
