There’s a lot to do in Fire Emblem Engage, and as more things unlock, it can be surprisingly easy to forget the basics. One of the first activities you unlock is the humble Skirmish. These battles spawn daily and litter the map with optional battles and training sessions. If you are getting into the story, ignoring these might become a habit.
This would be a mistake, because Skirmishes are one of the best parts of Fire Emblem Engage, and they litter you with all kinds of rewards and additional gubbins. Taking some time out to do Skirmishes is always a good idea, however, there is more to this system than just hitting mooks on the head with a triangle-mandated weapon.

What Are Skirmishes?
Skirmishes are side battles that spawn every day. These battles will appear and disappear as you progress through the story, but none of them are required if you want to progress. They are purely optional, however, ignoring them can lead to you missing out on some of the best aspects of Fire Emblem Engage.
This is because combat is the driving force behind Engage, and having more of it, gimmick-free, is always a good thing. You can spot Skirmishes on the map by the sprite soldiers that appear above previously-visited locations.
Skirmishes are not easy, however, and providing you are playing on Classic, Skirmishes can result in the deaths of your teammates. This is more likely that in regular story battles as Skirmishes tend to have a higher level requirement, making them more challenging.
Be sure to check the ‘Recommended Level’ before heading into a Skirmish. If you don’t have a party up to snuff, you might find yourself locked into a battle you can’t win. As a side note, be sure to manually save before entering too – just in case it all goes south.
Rewards For Completing Skirmishes
Completing a Skirmish is rather easy – in theory. Unlike story missions which have various additional requirements for completion, Skirmishes just require you to defeat all enemies. This is of course easier said than done, but the concept is rather simple to grasp. The rewards for completing them can be amazing, however.
Not only do you gain EXP and SP for completing them, like in any other mission, but you also gain valuable resources. Not all Skirmishes are made equal of course, so be sure to check the Skirmish info screen before you head into the battle, as this will list all of your potential rewards.
This can help you pick and choose the best Skirmish for your needs. If you want to upgrade some gear at the Smithy, then be sure to look for Skirmishes that provide you with rare metals.
Gold & Silver Enemies
Another aspect of Skirmishes is the inclusion of Gold and Silver corrupted. These enemies are rare, although their spawn-rate increases with your Donation Rank. These enemies are more powerful, and visually different, from your standard corrupted. They also reward you greatly for defeating them.
Gold Corrupted will shower you with money, which is a mighty fine reward considering how money-starved you can be in Fire Emblem Engage. The Silver Corrupted will grant large boosts to a character’s SP – a valuable resource that lets you customise your character’s Skills, Abilities, and Attributes.
Not only that, but they also provide more EXP, allowing you to level up faster. Prioritising Skirmishes with these rare enemies is an excellent idea, so seek them out and cut them down.
Tips For Completing Skirmishes
Our biggest tip for Skirmishes is to check the level requirements. We’ve already mentioned this, but Skirmishes can be very difficult, and if you blindly jump into them, you are going to struggle.
Be sure to bring a party with a varied selection of weapons. Enemies in Skirmishes are packing all sorts of weapons, so you will need to have counters on hand if you want to get through these battles smoothly.
Keep your characters in groups. This not only helps you take on larger groups of enemies, but it also boosts your Support EXP, allowing you to reap the benefits of closer bonds between allies.
Finally, stock up on healing items and staves. Death is permanent (mode dependent), so being able to heal your characters is vital – especially during hard Skirmishes.
That’s all we have for Fire Emblem Engage for now. Be sure to check out our other guides for more tips and tricks.
