There are a staggering amount of classes in Fire Emblem Engage. So many in fact that there are enough classes to satisfy just about any character type you want to embody on the battlefield. You could have katana-wielding Swordmasters, martial arts masters who heal, and even an air force consisting of Pegasus Knights, Wyverns, and Griffons.
Of course, that is just a smattering of classes and ideas, with plenty more for you to discover as you play. The thing is, many classes are locked away under the ‘Advanced Class’ label. Unlocking these classes can (and will) take a while, but needless to say, they are by far the most powerful classes in the entire game.

How To Unlock Advanced Classes
Advanced Classes are locked away until you find your first Master Seal. Master Seals are rare items that, once used, are gone for good. Early on, this makes Master Seals very valuable, although they get more common as you progress through the main story. You can get your first Master Seal by completing the Paralogue in Bandit’s Hideout.
Once you have a Master Seal, you can change your class into an Advanced Class. However, there are some stipulations. Firstly, a character must be level 10 before they can gain their promotion. Secondly, if a character is already an Advanced Class (Vander is an excellent example early on), then you can’t promote them again. You can, however, use a different consumable to sidestep into a different Advanced Class (more on that in another guide).
Benefits Of Advanced Classes
The benefits of Advanced Classes are instantly noticeable. Firstly, a character’s level is reduced to Level 1, however, they retain their stats before the promotion. Not only that, characters gain a hefty chunk of stats, instantly making them more powerful than their Basic Class counterparts.
As an Advanced Class levels up, you will also gain additional Class Skills that further elevate Advanced Classes. For an early taste of Advanced Classes, compare Vander and Alfred – Vander is far more powerful despite being the same level.
Finally, Advanced Classes tend to have higher proficiency when using their preferred weapons, and oftentimes, they will gain access to new weapons. For example, the Hero class can use Swords and Axes, giving them more flexibility on the battlefield.
Best Time To Class Change
One of the most interesting conundrums in Fire Emblem Engage is when to promote your characters. Because characters cap out at level 20, you want to make sure you gain as many stats as possible to become as powerful as you can be. Here’s the thing, you can be promoted to an Advanced Class at level 10. This promotion will make you substantially more powerful, however, you have cut your growth by 10 levels.
Sometimes this is worth it – especially if you are struggling with the battle system early on. However, if you want to make the most out of every character, waiting until a character is level 20 before promoting them will result in a character who is far more powerful when they gain their Advanced Class. Not only that, they will be far more powerful when they finally reach max level.
