The Last Of Us Part 1 Will Work On Steam Deck

December 12, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Portable pain and suffering, anyone?

After some speculation online, it’s been confirmed that The Last of Us Part 1 will be fully compatible with the Steam Deck. The confirmation comes from the game’s director Neil Druckmann, meaning that players can start looking forward to some portable apocalypse-age antics when the game launches on Steam.

Druckmann confirmed the game’s compatibility with the handheld system over on Twitter. In response to one gamer’s open question as to whether or not The Last of Us Part 1 would be verified for play on the Steam Deck, Druckmann replied in the affirmative. His confirmation will have put a few minds at rest, especially those, like the user in question, who may have been considering a pre-order of The Last of Us Part 1 on Steam in time for its release.

It was revealed at last week’s The Game Awards that the game would indeed be heading to PC in the Spring of this year, after previously only being available on PlayStation 5 consoles. The Last of Us Part 1 will land on Steam on March 3 next year, meaning that players who’ve not been able to experience the worldwide smash hit will be able to get started on their adventures with Ellie and Joel after years of PlayStation exclusivity. If you’re a Steam Deck owner, you’ll clearly also be able to take your end-of-days-based adventures on the go.

While this is clearly great news for those on PC and who own Steam’s handheld counterpart, it’ll be interesting to see how the game holds up in terms of performance. As yet, there are no technical specifics to share for The Last of Us Part 1 on PC. However, given that this title was rebuilt from the ground up especially for PS5, the fact that it’s intended to run on a portable device like the Steam Deck is pretty intriguing. Hopefully, in the new year, we’ll get some further details on specific features for the game’s PC port.

Until then, interested PC players can get their hands on the game by pre-ordering on Steam, or over on the Epic Games Store, where the game will also be available to purchase. The Last of Us Part 1 will become another PlayStation-exclusive game to make the transfer across to PC, alongside the upcoming PC port of Returnal, which is believed to be heading to PC in early 2023. However, there’s no official word as of yet on a release date, so we’ll be keeping an ear to the ground for further news on that.

The Last of Us Part 1 is available now on PlayStation 5. It’ll be coming to PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store on March 3, 2023.
