DOOM Will Run At 60FPS/1080P On All Platforms

February 25, 2016 by Stephen Daly

id Software hopes to create the best looking game running at those levels.

id Software’s upcoming shooter DOOM will operate at 1080p/60 frames per second on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.

Speaking to publisher Bethesda’s blog, the game’s lead project programmer Billy Khan commented: “We want players to wonder how DOOM and idTech 6 games can be so visually stunning at 60 frames-per-second at 1080p on all platforms, when other titles cannot even achieve a similar look at 30 frames-per-second.”

He added that the development team’s ambition “is to be the best-looking game at 1080p at 60fps.”

idTech 6 allows for impressive cross-platform functionality and also provides the game’s artists with the opportunity to create remarkable scenes with ease.

“idTech 6 allows the artists and designers to quickly decorate the world with fine details,” Khan continued. “idTech 6’s physically based renderer and dynamic lighting system allows our artists to make our characters and environments more realistic and stunning than ever before.”

There’s plenty more about the game on Bethesda’s blog post.

It was recently confirmed that the game will be released uncensored in Germany. Previous titles in the series have fallen foul of the European country’s content laws, as have other Bethesda developed or published games including Wolfenstein: The New Order and Fallout 3, which is being removed from the list. The game’s removal has prompted speculation that Bethesda may be developing a remastered version of the game for current-gen platforms.

DOOM will be released on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One on May 13th. Xbox One digital pre-orders will include free backwards compatible versions of both the original DOOM and DOOM 2.
