CD Projekt RED knows talent when they see it. They will be using the same composer who worked with them on The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt on their next project, Cyberpunk 2077.
Of course, this composer would be Marcin Przybylowicz, who has worked on soundtracks on many video games prior to The Witcher 3. His other game credits include The Vanishing of Ethan Carter and The Witcher 2 Assassins of Kings.
Marcin Przybylowicz spoke at length in an interview about the cooperative process he employed on making the soundtrack for The Witcher 3. Aside from the direction he automatically receives from the game’s setting and mood, Marcin spoke to the game’s main director, and directors for the different quests. In this way, he was able to establish what mood and feel each part of the game needed, and he composed appropriate music for each situation accordingly.
Marcin also composes music with the characters in mind, so if a character exudes tension, or happiness, or anger, the music reflects this appropriately. Marcin was not shy to compare himself to other game composers either. He states his work is similar to Jesper Kyd’s. Both make soundtracks that don’t linger in the background, but draw attention to themselves.
When asked for details about Cyberpunk 2077, Marcin only had this to say:
My superiors already force me to do it, because I spend most of my time with Geralt; however, some first attempts with Cyberpunk were already made.
Cyberpunk 2077 is currently in development for the PC, Xbox One and PlayStation 4 and is planned for release in late 2016. CD Projekt RED says it will be a significantly bigger project than originally planned.
