The Latest PS5 Update Is Set to “Improve System Performance”

October 5, 2022 by John McDonald

First it gets jailbroke, now it’s a new update!

The new update for the PlayStation 5 could massively improve a few things.

Sony has been the talk of the town recently, with the studio releasing all kinds of news regarding its future and that of its PlayStation consoles. Here’s something a little more technical anyway: Sony Interactive Entertainment has today rolled out the latest PS5 update and hopes that it will “improve system performance.”

According to the company’s patch notes, version 22.02-06.00.01 was released today (October 5), and it doesn’t come long after the previous system update dropped in early September either. The update was originally released as a beta version, and it was only accessible to certain players back in July.

Some of the ideas that the beta offered that will no doubt be included in the full release was an introduction for 1440p support, which would offer any monitor or TV display that supports it to play games in that resolution. There is often an argument that generates about the topic of 4K versus 1440p, and which one is better – not for the real OGs though, they know. 1440p offers a much better gaming experience all around, with it being able to support over 100fps and the high resolution that it offers, rather than 4K resolution with 60fps.

One other thing that the system update added was the ability to create ‘game lists,’ which are cool little folders that every player can customize so they can split their library up and create smaller sections that are far more manageable than what was on offer beforehand. This latest PS5 update should hopefully be just what the console and its gamers need, but with it coming so soon after the previous one, it makes you wonder a couple of things: was the September update needed? And how soon will the next update be?

We mentioned that it’s been a pretty busy week for PlayStation and Sony so far, with PlayStation Studios head Herman Hulst saying that Sony’s growing focus on live service games doesn’t necessarily mean that it plans on calling it quits on the single-player story-based adventures that everyone loves.

Hurst also added that Sony’s future console games will need to wait “at least a year” before they enter the world of the PC, apart from the live service titles, which could possibly be launched at the same time as the console counterpart.

And one more thing to wrap all this up: the PlayStation Plus line-up was fully released on Tuesday (October 4), and for those people that subscribe to the platform you will be able to get your hands on three very special games. Subscribers can now claim Hot Wheels Unleashed for PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5, as well as Injustice 2 and Superhot which will both be available for the PlayStation 4 only.
