In the movies, the Na’vi almost always work together so that they can accomplish certain goals. In Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora, you’ll get the chance to do just that, as you can be a Na’vi and join your friends as you explore Pandora and all that is within it.
Whether you ride on the ground, fly through the air, fight enemies, or just see what Pandora is like, you’ll have plenty of options on this co-op journey!
Plus, the game looks stunning, and the PC version is said to push the boundaries of graphical power, so both players will have fun as they look around and play.
#19 Roboquest
Platform: PC Xbox One XSX|S
Release Date: November 07, 2023
If you’re after a run-and-gun experience with a friend, then check out Roboquest. This new FPS title is based around a future where humanity is on its last legs. Evil robots flood the area, and while hope seems lost, our protagonist, Max, uncovers an old guardian bot that can be reactivated. Now, the duo set off to take the fight back against these evil bots and start seeking answers as to what these evil bots are after. Players can go through this game as a two-player experience. This is a fast-paced, action-packed game where it’s all about blasting away at the enemy. You will also get a bit of customization options here, whether it’s building up upgrades to your character or choosing from a wide range of weapons.
#18 Risk of Rain Returns
Platform: PC Switch
Release Date: November 08, 2023
When you’re playing a co-op title, you need to work together to get the best result, and in Risk of Rain Returns, you’ll have to do that in spades across many different metrics.
First, you’re going to a planet full of monsters trying to hurt you, so you’ll want to pick survivors that fit your playstyle and can do what you need to. But you’ll also need to consider what your co-op partner is picking for their survivor so your skills can complement each other!
Even if you don’t do that, you’ll want to pick the right kind of loot to take on foes with. Not to mention, you’ll need to have each other’s backs as you explore this world!
#17 Super Mario Bros. Wonder
Platform: Switch
Release Date: October 20, 2023
Co-op in Nintendo titles has been hit or miss in the past, but with Super Mario Bros. Wonder, they’re taking things in numerous directions so you can play with just about anyone. However, it may not be exactly what you picture.
For example, the game will have local co-op that you can enjoy with those within your home. Up to four players can play at once and be different characters.
Or, you can head online and do a version of co-op where you can race “ghosts” of one another or help each other by setting up places they can revive if they struggle in a level.
#16 Demonologist
Platform: PC
Release Date: September 25, 2023
Why in the world would you take on terrifying threats on your own when you can call in backup to better your odds? That’s what we thought.
Demonologist will let you do a special 4-person co-op adventure where you can go to haunted places full of terrifying supernatural entities and attempt to flush them out with the equipment you’ve brought. Will they be ghosts? Will there be spirits? Or how about wraiths? You’ll need to dig deep into these places to find out.
Plus, every place will be randomized, so no two adventures will play out the same way! Are you ready for what lies within?
#15 Starship Troopers: Extermination
Platform: PC
Release Date: May 17, 2023
When you’re fighting an alien menace that threatens all of humanity, which is totally epic if you didn’t know, sometimes you’ll want to take them on with as many people as possible. Thankfully, Starship Troopers: Extermination will let you do just that!
The co-op first-person shooter will take you to a world where the Arachnids have beaten back the Mobile Infantry, and you must reclaim all you’ve lost. As you explore the world, you’ll not only face the bugs but have to rebuild bases so you can seize control of the area once again.
Given all the types of bugs that will be thrown at you, you and your co-op partner must always be on their toes!
#14 Remnant 2
Platform: PC PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: July 25, 2023
Steam | Playstation | Xbox
When you’re tasked with saving a world and saving the very existence you live in, it’d be nice not to have to do it alone. In Remnant II, you have the power to save reality on your own, or you can bring in a friend to help tag team things.
As you explore the game’s many worlds, you’ll find yourselves going up against bosses that few can beat on their own. In these times, call upon other players and work together to vanquish them.
To ensure you’re a team player, go and upgrade your character and blend classes together to unlock new abilities and potential.
#13 The Outlast Trials
Platform: PC
Release Date: May 18, 2023
Horror games can be best had with friends that are not even necessarily on your team. If you’re a fan of horror games, then chances are you are aware of The Outlast franchise. While before we get a third mainline installment, the developers brought out a multiplayer experience with The Outlast Trials. The Outlast Trials is set years before the first two games, during the Cold War, when the Murkoff Corporation imprisons you. Forced to undergo a variety of unethical experiments, the only means of escape is completing a series of challenges.
However, between you and these objectives are a variety of hostile enemies. Just like in previous games, there’s no means of attacking enemies. Instead, some items further buff your character up to quickly reach a new area or slow an enemy down. However, your greatest means of help is with friends. This game offers cooperative multiplayer support where you and some friends can try to complete these objectives together or potentially throw each other under the bus.
#12 PayDay 3
Platform: PC PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: September 21, 2023
Are you ready to get back into the life of crime? That’s what Payday 3 is offering as you once again follow the original crew of robbers from Payday: The Heist. This game is all about going through a series of heists and stickups. You’ll have to plan out your attack, the weaponry, gadgets, and an escape route before you burst into the scene to take charge.
Of course, this time around, we’re in New York, and the world, along with the economy, has changed since our original crew of criminals first got started in the life of crime. Law enforcement will have their own new tools and strategies to face off, not to mention the growing popularity of cryptocurrency. But fortunately, what hasn’t changed is the cooperative gameplay. This game will still feature co-op, so you and your friends can try to successfully complete some of the biggest heists New York has ever seen.
#11 Diablo IV
Platform: PC PS4 Xbox One PS5 XSX|S
Release Date: June 06, 2023
PC | Playstation | Xbox
As a game once said, “It’s too dangerous to go alone,” so why not take on monstrous hordes with friends? Diablo IV will let you do that!
While many hail Blizzard’s series for its single-player customization and gameplay, you can take things to the co-op and multiplayer level by making a party and traveling around the realm above and below. Whether you lead the part or are one of its key members, you’ll have to work together to defy the hordes of Lilith and other forces.
Will you be able to level up together and become an unstoppable force? Or will you all be beaten back until you “git gud”? Dive in and find out!
#10 Moving Out 2
If you liked the original Moving Out title, then you’ll want to get Moving Out 2. The game aims to take the physics-based moving title and take it to not just the next level, but the next world!
Confused? Well, you won’t be in the town of Packmore anymore. Because whether you play the game alone or with friends, you’ll be traveling across dimensions in order to get new moving gigs and as a result of that, you’ll have a variety of new challenges to face!
Plus, you’ll now be able to play with people from all over the world! Making it so everyone can get in on the moving action!
#9 Dead Island 2
Dead Island 2 was a game that most of us thought would stay in development hell. It took years to get the sequel for Dead Island finally, and multiple development studios were involved at some point. But fortunately, Dambuster Studios was able to bring this game out into the marketplace, and we’re able to rip through countless undead zombies. For those who might be unaware, Dead Island 2 takes place a few years after the original game’s events.
Much like the first installment, players are presented with the opportunity to pick from various protagonists, each with unique attributes. From there, you’re dropped into the now-quarantined California state. A new zombie plague has struck, leaving the citizens to reach an extraction point within Los Angeles.
You soon find yourself immune from the zombies; your blood could be the key to finding a cure. Now you’ll need to melee your way through countless different zombies in hopes of getting rescued. If you enjoy bashing through the undead, it’s worth pointing out the FLESH system Dambuster Studios implemented in this game. Here you’ll get a system that can replicate various blows showing off damage to the skin, muscle, and bone. Best of all, you can go into this game with up to three players.
#8 Exoprimal
- Developer: Capcom
- Publisher: Capcom
- Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, PC
- Release: July 14, 2023
In Exoprimal, players will be able to jump into a variety of high-tech exosuits in order to take on hordes of dinosaurs that suddenly start descending from the skies. That’s right, dinosaurs. As a multiplayer online co-op game, players can team up and wear the specialised exosuit of their choice to pit technology against primaeval ferocity in a truly evolutionary battle.
Players will work in teams, travelling to the nearest dinosaur outbreak and taking on the toothy beasts to complete objectives and win in the title’s different game modes. The main game mode, known as Dino Survival, will have two teams of five players competing in a number of PvE and PvP missions. If you love high-tech wearable weaponry but also have a soft spot for fending off prehistoric predators, then Exoprimal is definitely the game for you.
#7 Techtonica
- Developer: Fire Hose Games
- Publisher: Fire Hose Games
- Platforms: PC
- Release: July 18, 2023
Techtonica is a futuristic, first-person factory-building game set on an alien planet. Players will need to dig beneath the surface of the colourful new world they’ll discover to gather resources and research new kinds of technologies. The game’s online co-op mode means that reshaping the planet and building new factories and bases can be done as a team effort. This is probably a good thing, as it seems as though this mysterious alien world holds a lot of secrets.
#6 Gatewalkers
- Developer: A2 Softworks
- Publisher: A2 Softworks
- Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, PC
- Release: January 12, 2023
A top-down action RPG that’s all about staying alive, Gatewalkers is another example of these engaging new online co-op games that take players across new worlds together. Players can team up with up to 3 other friends in Gatewalkers‘ core team-based survival mode. With the ability to travel through a number of procedurally generated worlds, players will need to work together to withstand harsh weather conditions, survive enemy encounters and stay alive for as long as possible. Co-op gameplay really seems to be a key component of survival in this game, as it’s much harder to survive the toxic conditions and powerful monsters of each realm when playing solo.
#5 Minecraft Legends
- Developer: Mojang Studios, Blackbird Interactive
- Publisher: Xbox Game Studios
- Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC
- Release: April 18, 2023
Minecraft Legends is a spin-off from the original Minecraft title and will bring adventure and exploration into the Minecraft universe in new ways. Strategic thinking will be important, as players will need to take on the forces of the invading Piglins in this action-based game. You’ll be able to team up with your allies to protect the Overworld from the Piglins’ dastardly onslaught, which will essentially bring more of a narrative experience to the Minecraft gameplay.
#4 SMALLAND
- Developer: Merge Games
- Publisher: Merge Games
- Platforms: Xbox One, PS4, Nintendo Switch, PC
- Release: March 29, 2023
SMALLAND will shrink players down to a tiny size and thrust them into an expansive and extremely hazardous fantasy world. Multiplayer survival is at the heart of this game, meaning that working with your online team might just be the best way to craft a substantial enough base in order to stay alive. Players will need to learn how to defend themselves from SMALLAND‘s predators, as birds, rats, lizards and spiders will try to eat you at any given opportunity.
Essentially this is an oversized sandbox for tiny-sized players and looks like it’ll be a lot of fun aside from simply trying to survive. The game also includes PvP gameplay so you and your squad can team up to raid other players’ bases or simply fend off any incoming attacks from others. There’s lots to explore and it looks visually pretty stunning too; another one to watch.
#3 Voidtrain
- Developer: Nearga, HypeTrain Digital
- Publisher: Nearga, HypeTrain Digital
- Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PC
- Release: May 9, 2023
A survival-style game with a locomotive twist, Voidtrain puts players into the roles of mechanics who must navigate the harsh new world they find themselves in, using a train as their method of transport. In online multiplayer, teams can work together to build and upgrade their train as they adventure across a mysterious new landscape. With a variety of creatures to meet and battle, puzzles to solve and challenges to overcome, the world of Voidtrain is pretty inventive and exciting. This looks like a great online co-op adventure for those who enjoy exploring new worlds and crafting (and perfecting) their very own vehicle to do so in at the same time.
#2 The Lords Of The Fallen
- Developer: Hexworks
- Publisher: CI Games
- Platforms: Xbox Series X/S, PS5, PC
- Release: October 28, 2023
Players will be taking on the role of a Dark Crusader and will embark on an epic journey packed with quests, NPCs, secrets and challenging monsters and enemies. Best of all, this dark and twisted adventure allows players to invite a friend to join them on their mission through the parallel worlds of life and death. The Lords of the Fallen lets two players work through the main campaign in online co-op, with heroes from other realms able to invade their games, thereby introducing some PvP elements into the core PvE experience. With a highly gothic setting and compelling storyline to offer, The Lords of the Fallen definitely a game worth checking into.
#1 Baldur’s Gate 3
Platform: PC – August 3, 2023
Release Date: PS5 – September 6, 2023
In today’s gaming age, most titles with an expansive world try to give you a co-op or multiplayer experience so that you can enjoy the game with friends. If you wish to do that in an RPG setting, Baldur’s Gate 3 is the title to try.
The best part here is that this won’t be a case of one person leading and the others following. You’ll be equal partners in this journey, and with four of you in one party, that means there are plenty of ways you can handle things.
You can coordinate to take down big bosses, go on separate quests, or screw each other over just because you can.
