SteelSeries Unveils Rival 700 Gaming Mouse

January 5, 2016 by Ian Miles Cheong

The Rival 700 is the world’s first gaming mouse with a fully customizable OLED display.

SteelSeries has unveiled its latest gaming mouse, the Rival 700. It's described as the first ever mouse with a fully customizable OLED display and tactile alerts.

SteelSeries, a company which is best known for its gaming peripherals, will be showcasing the mouse at this year's CES event. The Rival 700 offers a fully customizable onboard OLED display, tactile alerts and swappable physical components. Through these features, the mouse can provide gamers with real-time information and notifications as they play.

“We’re thrilled to deliver the world’s first smart gaming mouse,” said Ehtisham Rabbani, SteelSeries CEO. “By listening to gamers and eSports athletes, we’ve perfected professional gaming mice for more than a decade. The Rival 700 takes that expertise and meets gamers needs today, and grows to help them win in the future.”

The OLED display allows gamers to view their CPI settings on the fly, track their stats, and change profiles. It can also be customized to display logos and animations through the SteelSeries Engine. The tactile alerts can notify gamers through actual tactile feedback while they have their hands on the mouse. SteelSeries suggests that gamers can customize every aspect of the alerts for in-game events such as cooldown timers and health status.

Like other SteelSeries mice, the Rival 700 has zero hardware acceleration and offers 1:1 tracking. The resolution can also be configured to up to 16,000 CPI and offers latency as low as 1ms. Finally, the Rival 700 has a removable sensor module so it's possible to swap the sensor to newer options as they become available.

The 7-button mouse is expected to be priced at $99.99 and will be available in Spring 2016.
