Fallout 5 Is Confirmed to Be Coming after Elder Scrolls 6

June 15, 2022 by Alexandra Nicholson

Waiting. Waiting never changes.

In news that’s both intensely exciting and massively depressing, Fallout 5 is confirmed to be very definitely happening. However, the chances that we’ll be seeing it anytime soon are slim to none. Confirmation of the next chapter in the beloved Fallout franchise came courtesy of IGN, who got the news straight from the proverbial horse’s mouth in an interview with Bethesda’s main man Todd Howard.

Speaking to IGN, Howard clarified that Fallout 5 was definitely in the works and that fans should expect it to go into full development mode after the completion and release of The Elder Scrolls 6. It’s news that manages to be exciting and depressing at the same time, but it’s good to know that the post-apocalyptic RPG series is still on Bethesda’s radar. In the interview with IGN, Howard outlined the upcoming schedule for Bethesda Game Studios’ next set of projects post–Starfield.

Yes, Elder Scrolls 6 is in pre-production and, you know, we’re going to be doing Fallout 5 after that, so our slate’s pretty full going forward for a while. We have some other projects that we look at from time to time as well.

Fallout 5 may be a way off, but it’ll be interesting to see what Bethesda decides to do with the next Fallout game. Presumably, Fallout 5 will revert to the single-player narrative campaign-based gameplay of its predecessors (the designed-for-multiplayer Fallout 76 doesn’t really count if we’re looking at the games in those terms). Where will it be set? What will the story entail? Most importantly, will there be another canine companion? There’ll be a lot of speculation about what Fallout 5 will look like, but for now, it seems that fans will have plenty of time to mull these things over.

Still, we’ll probably all be playing Starfield for the foreseeable future anyway.
