A Microsoft PR stunt today for Rise of the Tomb Raider is certainly unique in the history of video game promotion – it involves eight people being tied to a billboard in London and subjected to wind, rain, and snow, as determined by those who watch and vote on the livestream.
The final person standing after 24 hours will be rewarded for their endurance with "a trip inspired by Tomb Raider".
At the time of writing there's almost 3,000 people watching. Those involved include streamer Jade Jolie, who's been a massive Tomb Raider fan for years, 29-year-old Lewis Wright who prepared by "getting lots of sleep and resting my legs," and 25 year old Samuel Steele from Northern Ireland who "once wrestled with a goat that threatened his very survival when he wouldn't give it a carrot."
You can find out more on the Survival Billboard website.
Rise of the Tomb Raider launched for Xbox One and Xbox 360 in North America on Tuesday and releases in Europe tomorrow. The game is coming to PC in Spring 2016 and to PS4 in later 2016. You can watch the game's launch trailer here and see the livestream below.
