Telltale Games Explain How They Wrote The Story For Minecraft: Story Mode

October 14, 2015 by Holly Green

If you’re wondering how a resource strategy game can have a story, Telltale has a few answers.

From a preview available over at Geek and Sundry, there are new details on Telltale Games' upcoming story-based Minecraft game. Players and critics alike have been wondering "how exactly story mode will work" on the construction-management title, which is driven by strategic pursuit and use of resources as opposed to a narrative core.

As they explain in the post, the developers drew from the experiences of Minecraft players to produce scenes that reflect actual in-game scenarios, but also wrote an adventure-based story arc reminiscent of normal-person-turned-hero tales that were so popular in the 80s. They also rely heavily on the recognizable staples of the Minecraft, from the inclusion of familiar items to how they're used, to keep things reminiscent of the original game.

Minecraft: Story Mode, but one of many Telltale Games' story-driven takes on popular games series, debuted October 13 to mostly good reviews. It is available on basically all the platforms, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, Wii U, PC, Mac, Android, and Apple devices.
