It’s not a surprise that The Coalition would be working on a new Gears of War title. The third-person shooter franchise has been a mainstay of the Xbox platform since the early days of the Xbox 360, and it seems like the studio is working on Gears 6 now.
A new job advert, spotted by Segment Next, is our biggest clue that development on the next Gears game is in progress. The advert is attempting to recruit a motion capture technician to join The Coalition and work on the Gears of War franchise. This listing doesn’t go into any details about the project itself, but it offers a small hint at the future of the studio. The job advert reads, “We are the official home of the Gears of War franchise, and our objective is to forge the future of the IP and push the limits of Microsoft’s entertainment platforms and devices.”
It’s worth noting that because the job description does not mention a specific new Gears entry by name, we can’t be certain if it really is the next mainline game in the series. Other games in the series have been released, such as Gears Tactics, although this was developed by Splash damage, and a remaster of the original game. While Gears 6 seems like a safe bet, there are plenty of other potential games that could be made in the Gears of War universe.
Back in December last year, the Coalition posted a job opening for a live design director. This role seems to involve working on “PvP and PvE experiences on future titles.” It’s clear that the studio has big plans for whatever the next entry in the Gears of War series ends up being, but it might still be a while before we see any of that come to fruition.
The Coalition is also rumored to be working on a new IP that would launch before Gears 6. There’s also a rumor that a remastered collection of the Gears of War games, similar to Halo: The Master Chief Collection, could be on the way. Hopefully, we’ll find out what The Coalition has been working on during the Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase next month.
