The first season of Moon Knight is in the books, and it was a very interesting season to say the least. Not just because of its titular character getting the live-action treatment in a fair way for the first time, but for the delving into the mythologies of ancient Egypt and why this character could make a big difference in the MCU once they’re “fully integrated” into it.
And for May Calamawy, who played Layla in the show, and later became a new version of the character Scarlet Scarab, she’s so happy with her character that she’s up for a movie or spinoff series about her new role in the MCU:
“I’ve never been in a movie,” the actor said. “Well, at this iteration of my life where I’m at now, I haven’t been in a movie and I would love to experience that. A Moon Knight movie would be wonderful. Now, if they are open to a Scarlet Scarab spinoff I’m not going to say no. (laughs). Or not even a Scarlet Scarab spinoff, even a Moon Knight Season 2. But my hope is that Moon Knight does jump into the film world.”
So as you can see, May is up for pretty much anything so long as she gets to keep doing her role, and given the fan response to her role, she’s likely to keep doing it in one form or another.
As for the ‘state of Moon Knight’, that’s actually a bit up in the air. There’s no confirmation of a season 2 as of yet. Although, the mid-credits sequence for the show did hint at a big twist that would be expanded upon in Season 2 if it happens.
Not to mention, the state of Layla and Marc/Steven is a bit up in the air after the final battle. So we’ll just have to see how it goes!
