Valve has announced that they'll be turning the popular Counter Strike mod Gun Game into a pair of official game modes in the series' latest iteration, Global Offensive.
The mod, which equips all players with a pistol and forces them to earn better weapons by getting kills, will be the basis for a new gametype called Arsenal. Each of Arsenal's two variants, Arms Race and Demolition will utilize Gun Game's basic premise alongside differing objectives. Valve hasn't announced the specifics of either variant, but they have informed us that Arsenal will be playable across eight new maps designed specifically for the new mode.
Worried that any official incarnation of Gun Game won't live up to the original? Don't be. In crafting Arsenal, Valve enlisted the help of the very folks who developed the original mod. Michael Barr, Gun Game's lead developer, said that he's “excited that Valve reached out and is working with us to ensure Arsenal Mode is the best version of Gun Game.”
Accompanying the announcement was a batch of nine new screenshots, which you can see below.
Counter Strike: Global Offensive will be releasing early 2012 on PC, XBLA, and PSN.
