Kong Studios moves its main office from Nevada to Santa Monica, California. The studio aims to expand its business operations and develop its next AAA game in this new office. “HQ’s move to Santa Monica is a significant start for Kong Studios Inc. It signifies growth of our company into one capable of developing a triple A (AAA) title,” staff said.
This move comes after Kong Studios raised $62 million in Series B round. The company is now a “unicorn,” with a value of over $1 billion. This new investment not only allows the studio to move its main office to Santa Monica but also to develop its next game title which is yet to be revealed.
The most popular game of Kong Studios is Guardian Tales. This mobile adventure RPG follows the story of the Guardian Knight. He has to defend the world against the Invaders who want to take over it. Guardian Tales soft-launched in parts of Southeast Asia in February 2020 and then officially on July 2020 for the rest of the world. Before its official release, the game already counted over one million pre-registrations.
In April 2021, Bilibili published the game in China under the title The Journey of the Princess and Guardian Knight of Kanterbury: Waking Up the Champion’s Sword. Seven months after its initial launch, Guardian Tales surpassed $100 million in revenue and 10 million downloads.
In October 2021, Guardian Tales reached the Japanese market. The game reached 1st place in Google Play Store sales upon its release and placed 4th in Apple App Store. Guardian Tales has been the most downloaded free game on the Google Play and App Store for two weeks in a row.
This move to a new office will allow Kong Studios to focus on developing a new AAA title.
