Fallout 4 Made A Major Change To Shooting; Here’s How It Worked Out So Far

August 12, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

As a sign of the SPECIAL system’s flexibility, you can pass on shooting entirely.

More gameplay details of Fallout 4 has been revealed, indicating it goes halfway in compromising for newer fans.

To put it simply, Bethesda chose to implement aim down sights, making it a much more accessible shooter. At least, that’s the theory, since the current build is still unreliable in that regard.

Thankfully, V.A.T.S. (Vault-Tec Assisted Targeting System) is returning to help compensate, such as in the sections where you have to face too many enemies than you could handle. However, the end result proves rough around the edges as a result. Hopefully, Bethesda will be able to refine this in the future.

The RPG elements that revolve around SPECIAL and the perks systems has been covered here before. Having skills trees for the SPECIAL system does make the whole leveling up system feel rewarding, and may encourage fans to eventually try to get all the perks.

As a sign of the system’s flexibility, you can pass on all the work Bethesda put on the shooting altogether and put all your starter points on strength to go all melee. You will miss out on some options, stories, areas, and relationships, but that’s your choice now.

Fallout 4 will be released on November 10, 2015 on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows.
