Cradle Completed And Coming To Steam After Four Years Stalled Development

July 6, 2015 by Ryan Parreno

Credit is due developer Flying Cafe for Semianimals, who accomplished this feat without crowdfunding or Early Access.

Four years after its initial announcement, indie first person sci fi adventure game Cradle is finally releasing to Steam, on July 24, 2015.

There will be a $ 12.99 Standard Edition, and a $ 16.99 Deluxe Edition, with soundtrack and artwork.

The game is the initial release of Kiev based developer Flying Cafe for Semianimals, announced as far back as December 2011. Much of the game’s premise has remained unchanged, as your player character finds himself stranded in the middle of nowhere in a yurt (a Mongolian tent, often used as living quarters) with a female robot companion. He acts to help find her parts and put her back together, and to uncover the mysteries of a nearby abandoned amusement park.

We covered an early gameplay video in February 2012, but in the same year, the game hit a serious snag when they lost their lead gameplay designer and ran out of budget. At this point a three person team, Flying Cafe for Semianimals made the call to take a brief sabbatical to regroup. They went on to incrementally work on the game. It would prove to be an excruciatingly long process, but one that finally yielded results.

Flying Cafe for Semianimals managed to finish the game without resorting to crowdfunding nor Early Access (although Steam Greenlight helped), and bringing these features:

·         Interactive open world environment

·         Living characters with non-standard emotion display technology

·         90 minutes of meditative ambient themed music

·         A mix of exploration with dynamic mini-games

Finally, Cradle will have the same promising story premise it announced four years ago. You can watch the trailer above, read system requirements below, and follow the Steam page here.
