Monster Hunter Rise has knocked it out of the park for Capcom. Shipping 4 million units worldwide within three days of release in March 2021, the game was finally released for the PC on January 12, 2022. Following this highly-anticipated drop, Capcom has announced that Rise has now sold over 8 million units globally. This comes after Rise hit the 7.5 million mark in October 2021, and pushes total sales of the Monster Hunter franchise to over 78 million units.
In a press release, Capcom detailed this newest milestone for the series.
“Monster Hunter Rise was released for Steam, a PC platform with a broad global user base, on January 13, 2022. Featuring high-resolution 4K support and voice chat functionality for PC, the game provided a fresh hunting experience that garnered praise from players while additionally growing the player base across a wide range of countries and regions. This, combined with sales of the Nintendo Switch version that was released in March 2021, drove global shipments of the game to surpass 8 million units.”
With 8 million copies sold, Rise is now tied with Resident Evil 6 as the sixth best-selling Capcom game of all time. The company’s best-selling title is Monster Hunter World, with over 20 million copies sold to date. Despite Rise‘s impressive entry to the Steam library, it was defeated by the PC release of God of War.
Rise is the sixth mainline installment in the Monster Hunter series. Adapting many of the gameplay improvements seen in World, the title also introduced Rampage, a survival mode in which a player must defend the base village from attacking monsters. It also received praise for its addition of Wirebugs, which allows a player to grapple and swing across gaps and also interacts with weapons to create more powerful combos.
Monster Hunter Rise is available on the Nintendo Switch and was initially released on March 26, 2021. The PC version of the game was released on January 12 on Steam. A massive DLC expansion, Sunbreak, is slated to release in Summer 2022.
