Frozenbyte Games have shared an announce trailer for Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power.
Trine has proven itself to be a popular and enduring indie side scrolling action adventure franchise, ported to multiple platforms, including Windows, PS3, PS4, OS X, Wii U, Linux, and even the Nvidia Shield. Taking elements and tropes from different 2D games, such as the three character switching from The Lost Vikings, the grappling hook action from Bionic Commando, and so forth.
The Trine games have you play three unlikely allies, Amadeus, a bumbling but powerful wizard, Pontius, a brave, if foolhardy knight, and Zoya, a clever, if untrustworthy, thief. All three are bound together by the mysterious powers of the Trine.
Spoilers follow below.
At the end of Trine 2, the three figured out that the queen Isabel was actually kidnapped by her own sister, Rosabel. The three managed to rescue Isabel, ensuring that the kingdom and the forest would go back to normal, although the fate of Rosabel remained uncertain. In an expansion, the trio had to deal with an accidental goblin invasion on the way home.
The new trailer betrays no story spoilers, but it does show something impressive; the addition of 3D to the 2.5D gameplay. The game has never looked better.
Trine 3 is confirmed for this year. It is likely to hit PC first, and slowly make its way to other platforms after.
