Lara Croft is returning to the big screen, and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle writer Evan Daugherty is now attached to write the Tomb Raider film's script, Deadline reports.
News of the movie first surfaced almost two years ago, when it was said that the film would follow the path of Crystal Dynamics' 2013 reboot and relaunc the franchise for the big screen. At the time, Iron Man screenwriters Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus were said to be performing writing duties.
"[It] is really the story before she became Lara Croft, so it is a character piece," producer Graham King commented at the time. "It does have a lot of really great characters, but it's a lot of action and a lot of fun, and for me, it's something very different.
"I've not really done a movie like that before, but I really gravitated to rebooting this franchise and we're going to give it a shot."
Deadline says King, MGM, and Warner Bros. are partnering to reboot the film franchise. Daughtery's previous work includes Divergent and Snow White and the Huntsman. He's also working on G.I. Joe 3.
Rise of the Tomb Raider, the next game installment of the franchise, is set for release later this year on Xbox One and Xbox 360.
