Rise of the Tomb Raider is Set in Siberia, Gets First Screens

February 3, 2015 by Stephen Daly

Lara is searching for the secret to immortality in the new game.

Game Informer has revealed the first details and screenshots of Rise of the Tomb Raider, including the game's setting, Siberia.

Lara's next game will see her travel to the frozen wilderness of eastern Russia "on a hunt for the lost secrets of immortality" while facing, "a secret society that has been lying in the shadows since the last game".

She'll have new gear to hunt and the game will feature "larger puzzle tombs". It seems she can now wield two climbing axes but how this will impact gameplay has yet to be detailed.

"Rise of the Tomb Raider is equally ambitious as the last one," Square Enix's head of studios Darrell Gallagher commented. "It's less about what is Tomb Raider. It's more about how do we top what we did last time."

Additional details about Rise of the Tomb Raider are likely to emerge from the next issue of Game Informer, which will be available on digital stores today.

Rise of the Tomb Raider is set for release on Xbox 360 and Xbox One later this year. Square Enix has yet to provide details of a release on other platforms.
