A Pokemon Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire Dual Pack? That I can understand — they are technically the same game but feature different content. A Super Smash Bros. for Nintendo 3DS two-in-one bundle, on the other hand? Seems a little excessive.
On December 11, Japanese players will be able to score a Smash dual pack that comes along with special Christmas-themed box sleeves and stickers for 9800 yen (about $90), a slight discount compared to the 10,400 yen (just over $95) for both separately. I guess the idea is to give one to a friend and spend the holidays beating the tar out of one another.
Japan is a little late to this party, as Europe scored its own double pack at the game's launch. Still, I think this is a missed opportunity to create a proper bundle — sell the Wii U and 3DS versions together at a discount. The Wii U version arrives in Japan just days before the 3DS dual pack, so the timing would have been perfect. Get the complete Smash 4 experience in one fell swoop!
No such bundle has been announced for North America, but who knows what Nintendo of America is planning. The company needs to find more ways to increase 3DS sales this holiday, after all.
