Alien: Isolation Gets Native Oculus Rift Support

October 8, 2014 by Ian Miles Cheong

Modders have reenabled native Oculus Rift support in Alien: Isolation.

Modders on the Oculus Rift subreddit have found, and reenabled native Oculus Rift support designed for Alien: Isolation. The code was based on demos that Sega and Creative Assembly showed off at various conventions.

Reenabling support for the Oculus Rift is as simple as editing a few INI files and launching the game with a few select command line options.

If you have access to an Oculus Rift, you’ll definitely want to play the game with these settings enabled for the maximum pants-shitting effects that the Oculus Rift offers with Alien: Isolation.

Here’s what you do:

1) in ENGINE_SETTINGS.XML (found in the DATA folder) change the stereo options to:

<Setting name="Stereo Mode">
<Quality name="Rift" precedence="4"/>
<Quality name="Off" precedence="4"/>
</Setting>

2) Set the Oculus to extended mode.

3) In the oculus configuration utility pause the service.

4) Start the game.

5) To play the game normally, reactivate the service by opening the display mode and set it to "direct to rift".
