Sony has revealed a new trailer for Minecraft on Playstation Vita, and there is a surprise in store.
We already know that 4j Studios is not done with the bug fixes yet, but it’s pretty clear from the trailer here that they have pulled off something impressive with this port. The game looks vibrant and animates well. You may have noticed there is a lot of aliasing throughout, but I would dare argue that works to the favor of the game’s aesthetic.
It turns out 4j and Mojang have planned a really big hook for the game, and that is local coop. You will be able to build, explore, and fight together with other Vita owners, and the trailer seems to indicate you can assemble as much as four players. I do wonder if they will also be able to facilitate a mix between local and online coop, if 4J Studios has set up for local coop with one copy, etc.
I also have to wonder if framerate will hold up for four person local multiplayer, but of course, now that I have brought all of this up, it suddenly makes sense for 4J to take their time with the bug fixing. Minecraft is the kind of game the Vita needs. It is popular, it has selling power, it appeals to kids, and now we know it will give PS Vita fans reasons to meet up.
