There was never a chance for player characters to be preserved from the beta of Destiny to retail, but some players—hoping beyond hope—that Bungie would allow them to carry their progress over from the beta to the retail version have requested for it on various forums dedicated to the game, as well as through social media.
Bungie says they can forget about it. In its most recent update, the studio announced definitively that all characters created during the game’s beta period will be wiped prior to the game’s official launch on September 9.
"This is the last time we'll ask you to part with your hero," Bungie explained. "On Sept. 9, you can create a Guardian who will keep you company for a good, long time. On a long-enough timeline, you might decide to delete him or her and start over again — but that will be your call to make."
Destiny players will have to re-experience content they played through in the beta, which was capped off at level 8 and brought players across Old Russia on Earth. Destiny’s beta served over 4.6 million players and was the largest beta to ever be conducted in the history of gaming.
Destiny comes out on September 9 for the Xbox 360, Xbox One, PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 platforms. No versions are planned for the PC.
