Velocity 2X is a game that mixes Metroid-like run-and-gun game mechanics with old-school side-scrolling action. It’s been dated for release on September 2 in North America and on September 3 in Europe for release on the PlayStation Network for the PS4 and PS Vita.
As you can imagine, the game will be cross-buy and cross-save compatible, meaning players who purchase it on one or the other platform will be able to unlock and retain their progress across both systems.
For those not in the know, Velocity 2X is the sequel to Velocity Ultra, taking the fast-paced shooting and teleporting of the original game with on-foot segments that play out very much like Abuse and Super Metroid. Players take on the role of Lt. Kai Tana as she breaches enemy boss ships and takes them out from within.
Players will have access to a wide range of weaponry at their disposal, as well as teleportation techniques that allow players to bypass obstacles in a pretty neat fashion. It’s also got a scoring system for players who get through the environments in a short period of time, so it definitely caters to the speedrunning crowd.

The game’s developers at Futurlab have not yet announced a price for the title.
