Dark Horse Comics recently released Halo Escalation Issue 8 and Halo Follower on YouTube has revealed that the comic recaps Halo 4's story and sees Master Chief arrive on Requirm, defeat the Didact, and lose Cortana in the process. In the comic, Chief then reports to the UNSC and states that the Didact's death has not been confirmed, the UNSC blames the events surrounding the crash of the Infinity on Covenant rebels as they don't wish the public to know what really happened.
Chief confirms that the Composer, technology designed by the Forerunners to bring the Flood under control, has been destroyed and this cannot happen again.
Lord Hood catches up with Chief after the session and informs him that a science team and its guards have gone missing. The Spartan security detail was attacked by enemies out of nowhere which seems to imply there were taken out by Promethean Knights.
Chief and Blue Team head out to Gamma Halo, the one seen at the end of Halo 4. The science team and Black Team, their Spartan guards, are found dead when they land on the halo. Soon after, Chief and Blue Team locate the location where the Composer was buried before being unearthed and sent to Ivanoff Station for study.
Elsewhere, a monitor informs the Didact, who has of course survived, that humans have found "the abyss" to which the Didact replies "I look forward to welcoming them to my world."
The comic seems to suggest that Chief and Blue Team are about to walk through some sort of portal which will take them to the Didact's world which may be setting the stage for Halo 5: Guardians.
Meanwhile, he has also recapped the Halo Nightfall panel from the International Comic-Con in San Diego over the weekend. As we know, Agent Locke will appear in Nightfall and will be playable in Halo 5: Guardians. It's interesting to note that Locke is dressed in Spartan armour in artwork for Halo 5 but does not appear as such in Nightfall.
The story of Nightfall is an origins story and may build into how he becomes a Spartan by the time Guardians occurs. Nightfall doesn't need to be watched in order to appreciate the events of Guardians however, it just adds more to the backstory of the game. Voice-recordings for the game are on-going now.
We know there will be no Pelican in the Nightfall but rather a larger craft with slipspace capabilities called a Condor which may also appear in Guardians.
Nightfall will include some interactive features which 343 Industries will discuss at gamescom in mid-August. You can find out plenty more from the panel in Halo Follower's video below.
