The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt Dev CD Projekt RED Promises Handcrafted, Unique Quests

July 4, 2014 by Ryan Parreno

We think they can do it too, since they are using unique creatures from rich Slavic myth.

CD Projekt RED has been discriminating in what to promise and not promise in The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, but there is one thing they are quite clear about today.

No, The Witcher 3 is not going to repeat quests, in between either the 50 hours of the main story, or the 50 hours in the side quests. Community manager Marcin Momot promises that CD Projekt RED has taken pains to make every quest in the game as unique as possible.  As he puts it, every quest, in fact, every thing in the game is handcrafted, and they do not have an automatic quest generator for that sort of thing.

Is CD Projekt  RED’s claim a credible one? I think so. As they have mentioned before, they are basing a lot of The Witcher 3’s storyline from medieval Slavic mythology, and this is a particularly rich mythology to pick out monsters, demigods, and other non-human creatures. It would not be impossible for each quest to revolve around a unique creature, creating opportunities to tell the most interesting stories.

CD Projekt RED’s choice to single out Slavic myth, and retell stories with as much fidelity to that lore as possible, rather than draw from the most common and popular world myth tropes liberally and out of context, like other games do, means it will also be a distinctly unique experience in that regard as well.

The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt will release February 2015 to Windows, Playstation 4, and Xbox One.
