Bioware’s Aaryn Flynn has provided new and much needed clarity on Mass Effect 4.
There really is not much yet in terms of details, but he has made it clear that the next game will be a clean break from the Mass Effect Trilogy. Again, he reiterated that Shepard is not coming back, and neither will his companions. The races, such as the Krogans, will be coming back.
In their teaser trailer for the E3 2014 press conference, Bioware revealed that the next game would go to a new region of space, implying that it might be set in a completely new galaxy. Alternately, though, I think it might not be that far off from the current setting of the Mass Effect games.
In spite of the clean break, Flynn promises that they will allude to the original games in some way, for their loyal older players. I think, by implication, Flynn is saying the new game is intended to bring a new generation of gamers, perhaps draw in some holdouts, and so we should expect a lot of changes.
