Filming has begun on the Ridley Scott executive produced-Halo digital feature which is being directed by Battlestar Galactica's Sergio Mimica-Gezzan and will be released this year, the Belfast Telegraph reports.
Microsoft and Scott Free Productions are making the feature in Belfast's Titanic Quarter in Northern Ireland and the newspaper says the project received funding from the UK region's government.
A spokesperson for Microsoft commented:
"343 Industries, Xbox Entertainment Studios and Scott Free Productions are currently working on a Halo digital feature project to be released later this year.
"The project will be executive produced by Ridley Scott and Scott Free TV president, David Zucker. Sergio Mimica-Gezzan will direct."
Scott, of Alien and Blade Runner fame, was revealed to be heading up the project in April. Microsoft is also developing a separate TV series with Steven Spielberg producing.
Halo 5: Guardians was revealed last month for a late 2015 release while the latest rumours suggest Microsoft plans to launch updated version of Halo 1-4 as part of the Master Chief Collection on Xbox One later this year.
