We have new lore to share with you from the world of Dragon Age 3: Inquisition. This time, we get a little background on the state of the Hinterlands.
Bioware shared to us today a letter to the Arl of Redcliffe, from his former horsemaster, Dennet. As far as I can tell, Dennet is a completely new character (feel free to correct me in the comments below on this if necessary, guys).
The Hinterlands were once peaceful lands, occupied mostly by farmers. At this time, however, the lands are caught in the crossfire of the ongoing fight between Mages and Templars. The place was struck with the Blight, with zombies, and now, continuing conflict. Many farmers, those who can anyway, have already left Redcliffe, for safety and to find refuge.
In the meantime, the lands are still roaming with dangerous people. Apostates are going around setting fire to anyone who so much as looks at them the wrong way. Templars are out looting and killing anyone who tries to stop them. They also seek out people to brand, rightly or wrongly, as mage sympathizers.
Dennet’s letter ends with grim notes that he is trying to hold the fort down and keeping refuge for those villagers who can’t get away.
I’m afraid I have a feeling Dennet won’t be around to update you when your party finally gets around to the Hinterlands, but in either case, it’s clear you have your work cut out for you. With this one letter the urgency of your mission as the Inquisition has become crystal clear.
Dragon Age 3: Inquisition will be out for the PC, Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3 and PS4 on October 7, 2014.
