Crytek seems set to make a big announcement today. The timing is interesting, but the details are too.
First off, our source here is Shinobi602, whose veracity as an insider has yet to be ruined. Shinobi doesn’t seem to have revealed anything that didn’t turn out to be true, and neither has he made things up that were later outed to be patently untrue. Of course, he rarely reveals anything truly incriminating, and neither does he really talk trash about any game companies. If that’s not a sign of an actual insider (avoiding burning bridges), I don’t know what is. So, until proven otherwise, we may consider this to be 90 % confirmed.
Crytek is revealing a sequel to their Homefront franchise, Homefront: Subtitle (sic). Notably, Shinobi didn’t reveal anything juicy here, but he did state that this game is a huge improvement over the original in many different ways. Knowing Crytek, we hope this means they worked on making a great story, and sprucing up gameplay, just as much as good graphics.
As a quick refresher, Homefront was in the middle of development when the original game’s publisher, THQ, went under. Crytek said then that work on the game was unaffected, and stated that they were progressing well late last year.
The game will be Playstation 4 and Xbox One only, although we don’t have details on the publisher, or any release dates as of yet.
As for the other game? We know nothing about it, aside from it will possibly be free-to-play. While all three console companies have indicated a willingness to host F2P games, PC is where this model 1st took root, so it seems a sure thing that this game is for PC. Who knows? It might turn out to be a bigger deal than Homefront. We’ll make sure to keep you up to date when Crytek’s latest games, including the new Homefront, are revealed.
