Let this be a cautionary tale to any gamer who is thinking of embarking on a gaming binge that'll last for days. It was recently uncovered that 26 year old Xiao Qiang of China's Hunan province suffered a brain hemorrhage that resulted in partial paralysis after spending three days playing video games non-stop in an internet cafe.
Xiong Zhiwei, the attending doctor, noted that Xiao can still regain most of his motor functions. Unfortunately, he now has a speech impediment and will have mental difficulties because of the incident.
This isn't the first time an incident like this has happened. People get seriously sick and impaired due to neglecting their personal needs so this happens outside of video gaming too. There are also worst scenarios that have happened in the past like death. While there's nothing fatal about gaming itself, it's healthy to observe proper moderation to avoid incidents like this.
Our thoughts are with Xiao Qiang and we hope he has a speedy recovery.
