Gearbox has officially revealed Homeworld Remastered Collection in PAX East, coming to PC, including Steam. A collector’s edition will be released at retail before the year ends.
So, the collection will have both Homeworld 1 and 2, both in its original and remastered forms. As we hinted at before, the remastering was quite extensive. Gearbox spent the money on making high resolution textures and models, HD cutscenes, graphical effects, a revamped soundtrack, etc. The end result is capable of running in the most high end PC builds at 4K resolution. Oh yes, and remember the survey they had for fans awhile back? They’re going with the bigger 12” replica of the Motership for this one, although the official site hasn’t really been updated with the info.
The site shows other additions we may see in the retail edition, and if true it will be teeming with memorabilia. This includes an art book, a game manual, a key chain, and game codes. Could this possibly also mean multiple digital copies?
With all those bells and whistles, you can imagine the Collector’s Edition will retail for quite a bunch of dimes. In fact, the company site has pegged that price at $ 100, although Gearbox apparently did not bring it up in the PAX East showroom floor.
Perhaps the most promising aspect of Homeworld Remastered is the multiplayer, which incorporates both games and will bring Homeworld online up to date with what gamers have grown to expect, or at least we hope so.
