Adventure meets RPG in Armello. In development for several years now by developer League of Geeks, the game just landed itself on Kickstarter to seek additional funding for its continued development for the PC, Linux, Mac, and iPad. The team of five aims to acquire $200,000 to make the game a reality.
Armello is “a swashbuckling adventure that combines RPG elements with the strategic play of card and board games, centring on a personal, story-fuelled experience”. Players take on the role of a hero from one of four animal clans – rat, rabbit, bear or wolf – navigating a procedurally-generated hex-based board in a quest to become king or queen.
Like typical RPGs, heroes are customizable, and unrestricted by class. Interestingly enough, the game’s quest lines change each time you play, offering much in the way of replayability.
Players can choose combat, diplomacy or stealth as they move their way across the board, which has a full day and night cycle as well as multiple environments. Players can claim settlements, negotiate with NPCs, and collect items, equipment, and playing ability cards — there’s over a hundred of those. Also in the works is local and online multiplayer, for added replay value.
