Going into 2020 there was plenty of hype and anticipation. We knew that both Sony and Microsoft had plans to bring out their next-generation video game console platforms. While the world is a bit of a mess with this coronavirus health pandemic outbreak, neither company is moving its release date back. Instead, both are gearing towards the launch this holiday season. With that said, there’s been a slow trickle of information coming out on both platforms.
While both Sony and Microsoft unveiled the components inside their systems and even some of the video game software coming out, we’ve been waiting for information on the release dates and price points both consoles will run players. It seemed like both companies were waiting for the other to make the first move. That finally came to an end today when we got the official price point for the Xbox Series X. This will come out alongside the Xbox Series S as well.
The Xbox Series X will cost players a total of $499 when it launches on November 10, 2020. It’s likely going to be a big event as this is right around the holiday season for players although we’re uncertain just how many units will be available at launch. Because of the coronavirus, Sony made note that there would be limited units available at launch with most having to rely on getting a pre-order rather than the unit itself right now. With that said, we do know that the pre-orders for the Xbox Series X along with the Xbox Series S.
Players that are interested in pre-ordering a unit will have to wait until September 22, 2020, that’s just later this month. Fortunately, those that don’t want to pay for the full console unit can rely on the Xbox All Access payment program which would give players monthly payments for the console rather than having to fetch over $500 right at the launch date. Alongside the announcement, we got some more information regarding the Xbox Series S.
If you don’t recall, earlier this week Microsoft confirmed the existence of the Xbox Series S. This is essentially an all-digital version of the Xbox Series X and today we learned that the console will be able to run the same games but at 1440p rather than 4K. It will also only cost a player $299 which could be a bit more enticing for some players that want to save some money if they don’t often purchase physical copies of video games.
For now, we know the release dates and just how much the next-generation Xbox console platforms will cost. It looks like Sony is still holding on to their release and price point information regarding their upcoming PlayStation 5 consoles.
