Those holding out hope that Demon’s Souls will eventually see a sequel on a next-generation console might want to look toward Dark Souls 2 for all their punishing RPG needs. Atlus PR manager John Hardin has commented on Demon’s Souls 2 making it way to the PlayStation 4 and although there seems to be an audience excited for the prospect, Hardin isn’t confident it’ll ever happen.
"Can 100 percent confirm there will NOT be a Demon's Souls 2. :(," Hardin wrote in the comments section of a PlayStation Blog post.
Why is this the case? Hardin puts the onus on Sony.
"That's Sony's call. From what I've heard around the Internets, Demon's Souls is one big Gordian knot," he said.
Of course, the story doesn’t end there. Hardin contacted GameSpot after this news started to circulate, giving a little bit more clarity to his original comments.
"While I guess *technically* it's not impossible, since Sony JP owns the IP, I don't want anyone to get their hopes up," he explained.
For now, just be excited that Dark Souls 2 is almost here.
