It’s only been 16 years since the original release of Half-Life 2, but Half-Life: Alyx still has the same Valve DNA. You’ll still be able to open a Source Engine console and input those old codes from yesteryear — most of them work! But a few require a little tweaking. We’re working on uncovering all the codes we can and listing them below so you can blast headcrab zombies for fun all day long.
Unlocking the cheat console is similar to how it’s always been done — you’ll need to input a special launch parameter in your Steam Library, then open the console and unlock cheats with another command. Once you learn how it all works, it’s actually very simple, and gives you access to cheats that give god-like invincibility, unlimited ammo, full upgrades and more. How To Enable The Console
To enable the console, you’ll need to follow these steps before launching your game. Once the console is enabled, you’ll be able to open it and input cheat commands in the game itself.
- Right-click ‘Half-Life: Alyx’ in your Steam Library and select ‘Properties‘.
- Select ‘Set Launch Options‘ under the General Tab.
- Enter the following and press ‘OK‘:
- -console -vconsole
Now you can begin cheating! Launch your game and press [~] on your keyboard to open the console.
The console will open on your computer monitor — not in your VR Headset. Take off your headset, and type in commands on the keyboard.
When inputting commands, make sure to type in the ‘Command’ field — ignore the ‘Filter’ and ‘Search’ fields. Press [Enter] to input a code.
- IMPORTANT: Input ‘sv_cheats 1‘ in the console to enable most cheats!
Input the following cheat codes to unlock the effects listed below.

| god | Toggle invincibility. |
| buddha | Take damage, but you can’t die. |
| impulse 101 | Gives all weapons and 20 resin |
| impulse 102 | Gives all weapon upgrades. |
| sv_infinite_ammo 1 | Toggle infinite ammo for all weapons |
| sv_infinite_clips 1 | Toggle infinite ammo for your magazine, no reloading required |
| hlvr_shotgun_grant_upgrades 3 | Gives Shotgun with all upgrades unlocked. |
