Do you love Minecraft? How about the 2D creative adventure that is Terraria? According to the sales figures of both of these products, you likely played in those massive sandboxes at least once over the past few years, and that’s led to many developers seeing the value of these block-based titles. Chucklefish is putting all of its energy behind Starbound, an extraterrestrial sandbox adventure game fueled by the player’s creativity. If you want to just widdle it down to its core, think of the game as a space Terraria – but with plenty of new gameplay mechanics that you’ll need to learn before becoming a true expert.
Thankfully, YouTube user Zisteau has come out with an extended tutorial for the game through his time with the beta. Character creation, resource management, exploration, and plenty of other core Starbound features are covered in the above video, with a few impressions of what he’s played sprinkled in, too. If you plan on sinking some serious time into the product, this is the perfect opportunity to become an educated explorer.
In addition to the PC, Mac and Linux, the game is also slated for release on the PlayStation 4 and PS Vita. Look to hear more on the indie title in the coming weeks.
