Call of Duty: Mobile Loses Controller Support

October 4, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Could we see it return as a separate lobby option?

Call of Duty has a big game coming out later this month, but before its release, we got a big mobile title from the IP. Call of Duty: Mobile offers a full multiplayer experience that we’ve become accustomed to with the franchise. However, with this game, players only need access to either an Android or iOS smartphone. Now everyone can enjoy the fast-pace and beloved FPS while on-the-go or simply enjoy it at home. With that said, there was one feature that may have been somewhat problematic for certain players and that’s controller support.

Playing certain games on the smartphone is not always easy. Touch controls can be difficult to pull off and of course, you have to deal with smudges on the display from swiping and tapping away. One of the ways that gamers got around that with Call of Duty: Mobile is by using a compatible controller which makes gameplay smoother. With that said, there is a concern that those playing with touch controllers are at a disadvantage.

Speaking with Hypebeast, Activision VP Chris Plummer, stated that there could be new rules implemented if needed for those who use a controller. For instance, we could see the game split lobbies between those who have a controller and those playing on traditional on-screen controls.

In terms of peripherals, we are looking at the possibility and have already been testing controller support with a portion of our live audience. It is very important to us that we maintain a fair balance across the game. One example of this is we have separate lobbies in Battle Royale for first-person perspective and third-person perspective players since you have the option to choose either in Battle Royale. We may implement a similar solution for players using controllers if needed.

Now it seems that the latest update has removed the controller support with no word if it will return. This very well could be a move to prepare a system that will offer two lobbies but that’s just speculation on our part.

Hello there, thank you for contacting Spec Ops support. Unfortunately, this is no longer supported after the most recent update. I would be more than happy to help. Thank you. ^RN

We want to hear from you on the matter. Do you think controller support should be implemented back into the game with a dual lobby system or should it be free-for-all no matter what players decide to use for a control system? Currently, Call of Duty: Mobile is available on both iOS and Android smartphones.
