Rockstar Stops GTA Online Microtransactions Until Issues Are Resolved

October 3, 2013 by Ryan Parreno

Rockstar all but admits that the game is best by server issues, among others.

Rockstar has now updated us on progress in ongoing issues with Grand Theft Auto Online. They have essentially confirmed that server instability is one of the ongoing issues, and subsequently, they have shut down the option to buy microtransactions for the time being.

If you are a player and looking for outlets to bring up your issues with the game, you can go to  the support team’s official site, http://support.rockstargames.com/ contact them via Twitter at @RockstarSupport, or email them at [email protected].

These are the latest identified issues with the game:

Playstation 3 owners were experiencing a server issue on Playstation Network that limited the number of concurrent users. This has been fixed.

There is a problem in getting through the first tutorial mission that affects all players. While Rockstar is busy fixing it, they have learned that many players eventually get through the issue by playing the mission again and again.

The problems with Grand Theft Auto Online’s services (aka servers) are making the game unstable for all players, even those who got past the tutorial. Rockstar is already working on fixing these issues.

So, as a consequence of all ongoing issues, Rockstar has opted to block players from buying Grand Theft Auto cash packs. Of course, players can still earn cash the hard way; by completing missions and engaging in profitable gameplay activities.

So it seems that like Diablo III, SimCity, and Final Fantasy 14, Grand Theft Auto Online is running into issues keeping servers up for their players. While we do want to see these issues fixed soon, this bodes ill for upcoming games that rely on the cloud.
