A Law Firm Just Filed Lawsuit Against Nintendo Over Joy-con Drift

July 22, 2019 by Dennis Patrick

Have you experienced this issue on your Joy-con?

The Nintendo Switch has become a popular platform due to its ability to be not only a traditional home console but a portable handheld gaming device as well. With the ability to connect the controller to a Switch unit, players can enjoy the console anywhere. However, if you’ve owned the Nintendo Switch very long then you may have experienced the dreaded Joy-con drift problem. It’s quite widespread as gamers worldwide have been commenting on this very issue online and sparked a lawsuit. Now we can wait and see what unfolds if this case moves forward.

If you are a newcomer to the Nintendo Switch or just lucked out and not had any issue, you may not have heard about the Joy-con drift issue. The Joy-con drift is when one of the analog sticks registers a player moving the stick to a specific area without actually being pressed. This is quite normal for some analog sticks for controllers, but this issue is a bit too normal and problematic for players relatively quick. Nintendo recently announced the Nintendo Switch Lite, cheaper version of the Nintendo Switch lose a few bells and whistles like having detachable Joy-cons, so there may instantly be some concern for potential buyers for the system.

The law firm is Chimicles, Schwartz Kriner & Donaldson-Smith and they’ve submitted the lawsuit over the issue. We’re not sure what will come of this yet but being such a widespread problem, it would seem that Nintendo would at the very least address the problem and work on future revisions that would remove the issue from future units released. For now, we’ll have to wait and see what will happen, but in the meantime, we want to hear from you. Has the Joy-con drift affected your controller yet and if so, has it caused you to purchase a brand new set of Joy-cons?
