Microsoft and Nintendo have yet to dip their toes into the VR pool for current generation consoles. For Microsoft’s case, this generation is far too late and it’s possible that we could see the company bring out a peripheral for the next generation release. While PC, Sony, and mobile smartphone users have access to VR in one way or another, Nintendo is looking to finally make the plunge into the medium. A new announcement has revealed Nintendo will be releasing a Labo kit that will turn the Switch unit into a VR headset.
As you may have imagined, this headset won’t be topping out the PC headsets such as the Oculus Rift or HTC Vive. Likewise, PlayStation’s VR headset will also trump the Labo kit, but its showing that the Nintendo company does have some interest. This is something that gamers have asked about before as the Nintendo Switch can be used in a portable mode and if that would mean a screen capable enough to provide more intensive VR video games.
This Labo kit will allow players to make the headset and use it for a few different video games. In fact, there will be two different Labo kits available one which will offer a more complete VR set that offers a few more peripherals. At any rate, the Labo set will start at $40 and will run gamers up to $80 if they opt for the higher tier set with the extra game peripherals. Both kits will be available for purchase on April 12, 2019. The only question we have is if you’ll be putting down the money for this kit?
For some gamers, this could be their first look into the VR gameplay that is starting to really make its way into the gaming industry. Whether this will lead Nintendo to continue on with VR remains to be seen, but depending on how many adopters there are for these Labo kits may give an incentive for the company to tinker a bit more with the VR medium.
