Platinum Games have not been lax sharing new information on the Wonderful 101, with a new blog post coming up every weekday. For brevity's sake, we're summarizing story information (which is still a lot) and put focus on the newly revealed combat elements.
As alluded to before, you will be able to recruit citizens as members of your team. You can do this thanks to the abilities of your suit, a 3rd generation CENTINELS suit. The suit allows you to use Wonder Energy, that powers your Unite Morphs, but also, other abilities.
So, by drawing a circle in the ground, you can put Wonder Energy into that said area. For example, circling a withered flowerbed can make you resurrect said flowers, and circling an object like car allows you to lift them. When you circle some rescued citizens, you automatically recruit them as members of your team. They will have the same abilities as the other superheroes and can join in Unite Morphs. You can rescue and recruit as many citizens as you like, but they will drop off once you reach a designated safe area.
Aside from each Wonderful One-Double-Oh member's designated Unite Morph, everyone can do some basic Unite Morphs. Lining up you superheroes is called a Wonder Liner, and making lines across buildings and gaps will allow you to climb or build bridges over obstacles. The best thing is, the tip of the line is also treated as an extension of the player, so you can use the Wonder Liner to grab hard to reach objects.
Humorously, the game also has littered around it Wonder Toilets, which are actually supply depots. You bring all your team members inside one of these toilets to make supplies come out. The UN has also littered supplies in hidden areas around the world, so you will want to poke around windows and other openings to check for more.
Lastly, Ichi revealed that you will actually have to find and collect each member of the Wonderful One-Double-Oh, as some have been captured by the enemy or simply lost their way. Each one is a hero in their country or region, and it can be inferred from what we've seen so far that they will each have unique abilities.
Now, about the heroes:
Wonder-Red is a teacher at Blossom City Elementary School and the current leader of the One-Double-Oh. Unfortunately, he is also a rookie, so he has yet to earn the trust and loyalty of his teammates. He is too serious for his own good. His Unite Morph is the Unite Fist.
Wonder-Blue is a hotheaded LA cop, who is a little too proud and prefers to work alone. Obviously, he's set up not to get along with Wonder-Red. Blue sports a Valiantium blade, and his Unite Morph is the Unite Sword.
Wonder-Green is a French middle schooler, who also happens to be an expert sharpshooter. Raised with a silver spoon in his mouth, he is spoiled and carefree. His marksmanship skills have earned him the name Le Sniper Supérieur. His Unite Morph is the Unite Gun.
Finally, a few words about the GEATHJERK Federation Supreme Armada. Based on what the UN has learned in their past two invasions, they are not a single alien force, but a fleet of different armies that belong in a single star cluster. So, you can expect to fight a wide variety of aliens in the game. They named some units including Dough-Goo, Cough-Foon, and GAH-GOOJIN. In response, the UN's CENTINELS Planetary Secret Service have been developing CENTINELS armor tech and inserting and recruiting sleeper agents in different parts of the world.
As you can see, Platinum has gone beyond its Viewtiful Joe days, making a storyline for the game that matches the width (if not depth) of more serious AAA productions. We will work harder on sharing more updates more frequently in the buildup to the game's release.
