SimCity to Add Subways, Terraforming and Double Map Sizes, Survey Suggests

July 3, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Raft of possible features revealed in Maxis questionnaire.

EA and Maxis recently dispatched a survey to a number of SimCity players and according to the leaked questionnaire they intend to double the size that mayors can use to build their cities.

The survey, which you can see in the gallery below, lists increasing the size of cities as a "potential feature change" for the title. Other suggestions put forward include the addition of subways, a rebuild tool and online guilds.

Perhaps the most notable possible addition to the game is terraforming. Both terraforming and subways have featured in previous SimCity games and many series' veterans have lamented their absence.

"We would like to know which features make you interested in playing SimCity again," the survey notes, adding, "Imagine cities spaces that are 2x the current city size."

Participants are also asked to express their interest in a cooperative mode which would see players "build cities together with friends at the same time."

As for terraforming, the survey states "True God Mode powers [would] give you the ability to raise/lower terrain and create your own city and regional maps," as well as the ability to, "Carve out lakes, rivers and oceans."

Among the other suggestions are an expansion pack which would allow for denser cities featuring skyscrapers and "future technologies." It may also be possible to choose between a mega-corporation and green living.

Of course, there's no guarantee that all – or even any – of the proposed features will make it into the final game, but which would you most like to see added?

SimCity has had a troubled launch period with many players initally unable to access the game due to server overload for the online required title in the weeks after it was released. EA apologised to users offering a free Origin game as compensation.
